Building an ecologically sustainable future

Pirkanmaan kierrätys ja työtoiminta ry is a registered non-profit public-benefit association founded in 2011, whose purpose is to offer households and communities in Pirkanmaa an effortless and reliable channel for reusing goods and materials.

A low-threshold gateway to working life

With the proceeds from the second-hand stores, we are able to offer work, education and working-life coaching to people in a difficult employment situation. Through employment work, we strive to prevent social exclusion and to promote the employment of people with partial work ability and those who have long been outside working life into the open labor market.

Around 100 people work each year in the association's reuse centers in work trials, pay-subsidized work and on-the-job learning periods.

A smaller environmental footprint through high-quality sorting

In all our sorting, we follow the order of priority required by law. Thus, goods donated to the association are primarily sought to be used for their original purpose – for example a table as a table and a shirt as a shirt. If this is not possible, we consider how it would be most sensible to recycle the item onward as materials. Only as a last option does the material end up as an energy fraction at the Tammervoima power plant. In that case, district heating and electricity are produced from the waste. We transport nothing to landfill.
